A strong gold price and positive performance of gold as an investment in Q1 2012

The World Gold Council published this week their quarterly research about the investment in gold in the first quarter of 2012. There were three major conclusions, as summarized below. 1. The gold price has risen in all major currencies. The long term positive evolution of the gold price is still intact. In terms of the US dollar, the gold price has risen 8.6% in the first quarter of 2012. Compared to the gold price of the same quarter of year earlier, the price was 22% higher in dollar terms. We saw a very similar trend in the gold price in other major currencies, like the euro or the yuan. Especially […]

Bottom Forming In Precious Metals and Miners

Bottom Forming In Precious Metals and Miners

We are encountering storms in the market rarely seen.  The volatility has affected many mining equities with many high quality assets selling at record low prices.  Portfolios have rarely seen such see saw price activity as they have this year.  Sacrosanct rules are simply not working.  The markets are thwarting and aborting attempts to use time tested approaches. The great Scottish Poet Robert Burns described the current market by writing, “the best made plans of mice and men go oft astray.”  He also observed “alas in this world there is more offal than poetry.”  But poetry hardly pays and compost does. Gold Stock Trades (GST) tries to tell it like […]

How to play the gold mining sector – Podcast

In this podcast, Brent Cook, geologist and writer of Exploration Insights, and the GoldMoney Foundation‘s Dominic Frisby talk about the current state of the gold mining sector and how to invest in it. Cook thinks that many investors buy junior mining stocks as play on physical gold – though these are very different markets. Many companies haven’t delivered on overly-optimistic profit projections, and the market has been heading lower since the optimism highs of late 2010. As profitable, high profit margin companies have got trashed along with more speculative stocks in this downturn, Cook believes that there are some fantastic investment opportunities right now, which could pull money back into this sector. […]

Silver investment – A prospective way to come out of your debt problems

Although gold is frequently considered as the only expensive metal that can serve the function of money, silver too is gaining significance in the investment market. The commercial use of silver is increasing and with this, the value of silver is climbing fast too and even quicker than the cost of gold. Thus, if you’re […]

We are now in the Greatest Wealth Transfer in History

| February 26, 2012 | Articles: Insights

In this video, you’ll hear from Mike Maloney why we are currently in a huge wealth transfer, maybe the greatest one in history. Mike Maloney in this video explains why “wealth is never destroyed, it is only transferred.” This is a fundamental insight you need to retain and ask yourself in which camp you are currently with your (personal) assets : growing & preserving wealth vs losing wealth ? Mike Maloney starts off by referring to a quote in the book “The great economic disorder”, written by Larry Bates in the 90’s. The quote he mentions is “wealth is never destroyed, it’s merely transferred”. One of the ideas in the […]

Rare Earth Investment Update

By Jeff Clark, Casey Research We’ve received a number of inquiries from Casey Research subscribers about our opinion on the current rare earth metals market. We have covered this topic previously, but this article, we’ll take a fresh look. As a matter of a recap, rare earth elements (or REEs) is a generic name for 17 metals widely used mostly in high-technology devices, such as mobile phones, laptops, flat screen televisions, hybrid car batteries, lasers, optics, and military equipment. New uses for these metals are being constantly found, but more on that later. Despite the name, these metals are not actually rare in nature. The name refers to the fact […]

Ben Graham’s Curse on Gold

Ben Graham’s Curse on Gold

By David Galland, Casey Research It seems that the mainstream investment community only takes a break from ignoring gold to berate it: one of gold’s most outspoken critics, uber-investor Warren Buffett, did so recently in his latest shareholder letter. The indictments were familiar; gold is an inanimate object “incapable of producing anything,” so any investor holding it instead of stocks is acting out of irrational fear. How can it be that Buffett, perhaps the most successful (and definitely the most well-known) investor of our time, believes that gold has no place in an intelligently allocated investment portfolio? Perhaps it has something to do with his mentor, Benjamin Graham. Graham, author […]

Euro’s SPX Influence

Euro’s SPX Influence

Over the past few years, the fortunes of Europe’s euro currency have appeared to significantly influence the US stock markets. This rather-curious relationship has proved vexing at times to American traders, as it doesn’t seem logical on the surface. But given the high correlation between the US stock markets and the euro, prudent traders can’t ignore its impact. And the euro’s state today is very bullish for US stocks. Ever since this odd composite currency was born in January 1999, the euro has been much maligned. More or less continually over this entire 13-year span, skeptics and naysayers have been calling for the euro’s imminent demise. They argue that a […]

Broad Market Nearing Resistance while Gold Stocks Basing After Bottom

Broad Market Nearing Resistance while Gold Stocks Basing After Bottom

While the gold stocks have enjoyed a decent recovery, they have certainly lagged the broad market which has almost broken out to new highs. Should you be worried that a major shift is in place? Hardly. The fact is the broad market is in the latter stages of its a cyclical bull while gold stocks just completed a major bottom. Don’t call us doom and gloomers because we do not foresee a real bear market. The last phase of a secular bear market tends to be mild in nature but coincides with a strong move in resources, higher inflation and higher interest rates. In looking at the charts, we expect […]
