The Real Indian Currency Crisis (Things You Don’t Hear In The News)

Article provided by Hard Asset Alliance. By Jayant Bhandari On November 8, 2016, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi dropped a bombshell. In a televised address at 8:00 pm, he declared that after midnight—four hours later—banknotes with face values of INR500 (US$7.50) and INR1,000 (US$15) would no longer be legal tender. These bills comprised 86% of the monetary value of currency in circulation, so to say that panic ensued would be an understatement. The market stayed open all night as people rushed to buy gold, Rolex watches, and anything else they could get their hands on to use up their cash. During the next two weeks, gold traded for as much […]

A North Korean EMP (Electro Magnetic Pulse) Attack: The Dark Possibility

Article compliments of Hard Assets Alliance. By Shannara Johnson As the tension between North Korea and the US continues to grow, the possibility of war is rapidly evolving into a probability. Now some military experts worry that an attack via EMP (electromagnetic pulse) on the US mainland might be a feasible option for Pyongyang. The signs are certainly there: Having recently completed the ninth missile test of 2017, Kim Jong-un promised to send the US an even bigger “gift package.” Adding to Kim Jong-un’s antics and inflammatory rhetoric, the recent death of American college student Otto Warmbier after his 17-month imprisonment in North Korea has certainly fanned the flames of […]

Fed Officials Say More Hikes Are on The Way, Markets Disagree

Fed Officials Say More Hikes Are on The Way, Markets Disagree

Federal Reserve Chairwoman Janet Yellen says she is planning more hikes in the Fed funds rate, but you wouldn’t know it by watching the markets. So far, the response in foreign exchange, bonds, and equities isn’t what people expected. Markets have always been notorious for behaving unpredictably. But in an age when central bankers micromanage virtually all markets, the behavior could be the result of careful planning. Maybe the recent market action was only unpredictable for those of us outside of the FOMC conference room. Officials hiked rates in December, March, and June. Despite that the U.S. dollar has fallen to its lowest levels in more than a year. The […]

Considering Switching Your IRA – Make Sure You Do It Properly Or It Could Be An Expensive Decision

Considering Switching Your IRA – Make Sure You Do It Properly Or It Could Be An Expensive Decision

The fact that you are reading this post shows that you are a focused individual who cares about their retirement. This may seem like a strange comment to make, but the vast majority of workers simply pay in money to their retirement accounts and let their chosen company manage the investment. In our opinion, this is a bad idea, even if your chosen company is doing an excellent job at the end of the day that money is still your retirement pot, and nobody else will care as much about it as you do. With the recent volatility in the stock market, many people have been contemplating switching at least […]

Louisiana Ends Sales Tax on Gold & Silver Bullion

Louisiana Ends Sales Tax on Gold & Silver Bullion

Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards Signs House Bill 396 to Remove Sales Tax from Certain Precious Metals Baton Rouge, Louisiana — Sound money advocates rejoiced as Governor John Bel Edwards signed House Bill 396 into law in recent days. HB 396, which passed in the Louisiana state house and senate earlier this month by overwhelming majorities, removes state sales taxation of precious metals, specifically gold, silver, and platinum coins and ingots. Representative Stephen Dwight (R-Lake Charles) and Representative Mark Abraham (R-Lake Charles) introduced HB 396 with the goal of encouraging precious metals purchasers to keep more of their investment dollars inside the state rather making investments elsewhere. The bill impacts […]

Gold and Silver Are “Asymmetric” Trades

Gold and Silver Are “Asymmetric” Trades

An asymmetric trade is a situation where investing a relatively small amount of money holds the potential of yielding a profit many times the amount of the original sum at risk. In other words, where the risk to reward is skewed massively in the direction of reward. This took place recently with Bitcoin (BTC). Is this conceptually different from bets made years ago on Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon, or Facebook, which yielded hundreds of percent profit to intrepid investors? Does it have relevance to the possible returns during the next few years for those who hold physical gold and silver? I would answer “yes” and “yes.” The current “mania” in the […]

How Precious Metals Can Help Protect Your Wealth from Hackers

How Precious Metals Can Help Protect Your Wealth from Hackers

Could your wealth be hacked? It’s a threat most investors overlook. But they do so at their own peril. If elections can be hacked, then so can bank and brokerage accounts, as well as any online platforms for digital currencies. More than five months into Donald Trump’s presidency, the “Russia hacked the election” conspiracy theories still won’t go away. They’re expanding to also implicate Russian hackers for meddling in elections in France and elsewhere. The latest Russian hacking story centers on Qatar. According to the Guardian, “An investigation by the FBI has concluded that Russian hackers were responsible for sending out fake messages from the Qatari government, sparking the Gulf’s […]

Hell Freezes Over: CFTC Finds Trader Guilty of Metals Price Rigging

Hell Freezes Over: CFTC Finds Trader Guilty of Metals Price Rigging

It must have been painfully awkward for the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). Last year, Deutsche Bank settled a civil suit involving blatant market rigging and turned over reams of information, including chat logs and voice recordings. The trove contained plenty of damning evidence which had gone overlooked by the CFTC. CFTC investigators supposedly spent 5 years searching for illegal market manipulation, but somehow, managed to find nothing. The cheating became hard to ignore after Deutsche Bank turned over voice recordings and 350,000 pages of documents which revealed bank trading desks being run like the back office of a crooked casino. Here is one of the chat log gems between […]

How Would Markets React If Trump Is Actually Forced Out of Office?

How Would Markets React If Trump Is Actually Forced Out of Office?

Donald Trump’s policy agenda – and his very presidency – are in jeopardy… …at least if you believe the chatter on cable television. Yes, for weeks now, the big media outlets have been stirring up talk of impeachment. One narrative after another – Russia, Comey, Kushner, etc. – yet no conclusive evidence of any “high crimes and misdemeanors.” Still, Democrats in Congress smell blood in the water… and they have readied articles of impeachment for introduction as soon as an opportunity presents. But investors don’t seem particularly concerned about the implications of political turmoil intensifying in Washington. The stock market keeps edging higher with minimal volatility. The only hint of […]

Mike Gleason:  When we had you on last you commented that you believed the market was pricing in President Trump getting virtually all of his policy agenda pushed through Congress, the tax cuts, repealing Obamacare, and so forth. To say Trump has encountered some resistance in Washington would be a major understatement. The establishment of the right doesn’t seem to like him. The left and the mainstream media of course hate him. So, Michael before we get into the […]
